International Competition
The World of Wearable Art (WOW) is an international competition held annually in New Zealand, providing a prestigious platform for designers worldwide to showcase their conceptual designs and wearable art. Each year, the competition announces six themes that designers must interpret in their creations.
Project Brief -
For my garment, I selected the theme "Crazy Curiosities of the Creature Carnival". My design draws inspiration from underwater creatures, incorporating sustainable elements through upcycled materials such as discarded wires, fish tank silicone tubes, and pool noodles.
The garment features iridescent organza fabric layered with net, with silicone tubes inserted between the layers to create a tactile texture. The tentacle-like structures are crafted from pool noodles and wire, while nylon threads and glass beads mimic floating bubbles. Due to the limited timeframe of less than a week for completion, the final garment evolved slightly from the initial sketch.
